The Calm Protocol

Not a bag. A protocol.

We started with one cat who hid under the bed for two days after every appointment.

Why we built this

Our cat Mochi hid under the bed for two days after every appointment.

The drive there was screaming — the full twenty minutes. The waiting room was worse. And coming home she smelled like the clinic, so her housemate hissed at her and they fought.

We tried what everyone tries. Different carriers. Calming sprays. A towel over the crate. Some of it helped a little. None of it solved anything.

So we stopped asking what was easy to change and started asking what was actually causing it.

What we found

Cat travel anxiety is a sensory problem, not a behaviour problem.

She isn't being dramatic and she isn't badly trained. She is processing more than she can handle: motion she can't predict, a view she can't control, a room that smells like fear pheromones from the last twelve patients, and hands that belong to strangers.

Her nervous system is doing exactly what it evolved to do.

Arguing with it doesn't work. Removing the inputs does.

What The Calm Protocol is

Four steps, in order. Each one handles a single input.

  • ContainBreathable mesh on both sides gives her a controlled field of view — enough to orient, not enough to overwhelm. Three zippered entries mean you load her from the angle she'll accept instead of forcing the one you prefer.
  • ComfortA padded mat that has spent two nights on your bed. Scent is how she checks whether a place is safe, and yours is the most reassuring signal she has.
  • HydrateA stressed cat stops drinking. Water on the road keeps a small problem from turning into a longer recovery.
  • RestoreShe comes home carrying the clinic on her coat. Wiping it off before she rejoins the household is what prevents the fight we used to get every single time.

Not a bag. A protocol.

Who this is for

Cat owners who are tired of the fight. Who feel guilty every time the carrier comes out. Who want the appointment to be ordinary instead of something they dread for a week.

We are not for everyone. If your cat walks into any carrier without complaint, you don't need us.

But if you already know the feeling of dreading a vet visit before it starts — that's who we built this for.

The next vet visit doesn't have to be a battle.
